Liz Leffman condemns top down, centralised housing targets1.57.33pm GMT Tue 10th Feb 2009
Liz Leffman, Prospective Lib Dem MP for Meon Valley, has today signed a petition on the Downing Street website, asking Gordon Brown to suspend regional housing targets, and instead to give local councils the power to decide what is best for their own communities. "I am very concerned about the sheer numbers of houses that the Government is planning for our area" said Liz "We have 10,000 houses proposed in the area north of Fareham, 6,000 in Botley, 2,000 plus at West of Waterlooville, and thousand more being imposed on towns and villages throughout Meon Valley. "The Government has given no consideration to the environmental impact of all these homes, and has made no provision for improvements to infrastructure. "Gordon Brown's proposals are based on a 'predict and provide' assessment that bears no relation to current economic circumstances or employment prospects. Local councils should be allowed to set their own targets based on local, sustainable housing needs, and in consultation with local communities." The petition on the Downing Street website gives people all over the country the opportunity to protest about Gordon Brown's top down, centrally imposed housing plans.
